Construction site chaos in Zwickau: New closures at the start of the holidays!

In Zwickau, residents and road users can expect some changes, especially now at the start of the holidays. From the first week of the holidays, numerous construction sites and road closures will begin, which will cause traffic delays. How View reported, the Marienthaler Straße and August-Schlosser-Straße areas are the focus of the measures.

A highlight of the new construction sites is the partial closure of Marienthaler Straße, which must be regulated from Monday until October 24, 2025. The area around the “Brander Weg” tram stop is affected and the sidewalk is also affected. Here traffic is directed by traffic lights because there is a specific reason: the drinking water house connection is being replaced.

Full closures and diversions

But that's not all: August-Schlosser-Straße and von-Schlegel-Straße will also be completely closed from Monday. This full closure will last until October 17th. The measures affect the area August-Schlosser-Straße 36 to von-Schlegel-Straße 14, between Karl-Liebknecht-Straße and Lützowstraße. The drinking water supply for the volunteer fire department is established and disconnected, so that diversions have to take place via Wildenfelser Straße and Karl-Liebknecht-Straße.

The intersection of Friedrich-Engels-Straße / Franz-Mehring-Straße has been completely closed since October 2nd because repairs to a drinking water pipe are being carried out here. This work is scheduled to be completed by October 10th. Gochtstrasse will also be completely closed from Monday, October 6th in order to renew sewer and drinking water pipes; The work will continue until November 17th.

Extensive construction site offensive

Let's take a look at the comprehensive construction site offensive in Zwickau, which began on July 28, 2025, how The Zwickauer turns out. This offensive aims to modernize infrastructure and covers several main streets in the city. Lichtentanner Straße and Lindenallee are particularly affected, where, among other things, they are closed for broadband expansion. Here it is closed from the roundabout to Kohlenstrasse and from the roundabout to number 18.

Local public transport is also suffering from the construction sites, as numerous bus routes have to be rerouted or shortened. One of the affected lines is line 10, which now has to accept diversions via Reichenbacher Straße and Humboldtstraße. The “Weißenbrunn, Mühlensteig” stop will also be eliminated.

Investments in the future

In an ambitious project, the city of Zwickau is investing a total of 19 million euros in 45 individual projects for the years 2025 and 2026. These include new road surfaces as well as the laying of cables and the creation of barrier-free crossings. The mobility transition, which poses challenges for many cities, is also an issue in Zwickau. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport promotes projects for sustainable urban and transport planning in order to direct traffic onto modern rails.

Overall, it shows that the city of Zwickau is well on the way to making its infrastructure sustainable. Regular information about the current construction sites is published weekly to ensure that traffic runs as smoothly as possible for citizens and to point out the changes.
