Burglary and theft: Zwickau in the sights of criminals!
Between Monday and Thursday, sanitary technology was stolen from a shopping center on Marienplatz in Zwickau. Unknown perpetrators stole three shower fittings and a washbasin, resulting in stolen damage of around 550 euros. The Zwickau police are asking the public for information, as there is currently no trace of the perpetrator Radio Zwickau reported.
Another report reports a break-in at a workshop on Thierfelder Straße in Hartenstein. In the night from Thursday to Friday, unknown people ransacked the workshop and stole cash in the low four-digit range. The material damage here amounts to around 250 euros. Here too, the Werdau police are looking for witnesses to get to the bottom of the case.
Traffic accidents in the region
The police in the region are concerned not only with thefts, but also with traffic accidents. There was a collision between two cars in Wilkau-Haßlau on Friday morning. A 77-year-old driver ignored the right of way of a 79-year-old driver at the junction with Sandbergstrasse. Both cars were no longer drivable after the accident, but fortunately there was no material damage of around 8,500 euros. Nobody was injured.
On July 4th, 2025, the police in Reichenbach carried out a traffic stop when the driver of a white VW Golf unexpectedly fled at excessive speed. The vehicle ultimately had to be impounded after citizens reported that two people had abandoned the car after fleeing. This shows once again how important citizen participation is in solving crimes.
Events around Plauen
Another incident took place in Plauen, where unknown people tried to break the window of a bicycle shop. Fortunately, the window remained intact, meaning no access to the interior was possible. The amount of damage is estimated at around 2,000 euros. Information to the Plauen police station is also welcome.
According to an analysis by Statista Crime in Germany is declining overall, but around 5.63 million crimes were recorded in 2022. Thefts in particular account for a high proportion of this, with over 1.78 million of the crimes recorded by the police. The rise in these crimes has reached alarming proportions, which should encourage citizens to be vigilant.
