Ice pirates in transition: new Flex gangs for Crimmitschauer Stadium!

In the Crimmitschauer Sahnpark, a lot is happening: the conversion of the artificial ice stadium is on schedule, and the ice pirates can soon look forward to new ice. Already in the coming month, players will be able to go back to the freshly prepared area. Among the hard-working helpers during the conversion is Jörg Wippel, a 52-year-old train driver from Altenburg, who even sacrificed vacation days for the good cause. "I've been a loyal fan of the ice pirates for over twenty years," admits Wippel, while examining a piece of the new material. If his shift schedule allows it, he is regularly involved in the home games.

But not everything runs very smoothly. The city of Crimmitschau has terminated the usage contract with the ice spirates Crimmitschau GmbH, which presents fans and those responsible for great challenges. The reason is different opinions on the contractual obligations regarding the new Flex gangs and LED lighting. As Daniela Lange, the city's press spokeswoman, explains, the city administration shows willingness to talk and is ready to read more about the matter. The termination, which ensures dismay in the politically turbulent period, is already the second within two years.

conflicts and conversations

The conflict escalated after a consultation on January 16, 2025 between Mayor André Raphael and representatives of the ice pirates. It became clear that the city of Crimmitschau is not ready to cover the costs for the urgently needed flex gangs and the LED light. In addition, a proposal for refinancing was rejected by the ice pirates by ticket price increases. On January 20, 2025, Jörg Buschmann, managing director of the ice pirates, expressed his concerns in a letter to the city representatives. It turns out that the discussions about the requirements of the DEL2 that have been taking place since 2018 could hardly make any progress.

The political discussions are active, and some members of the factions signal willingness to find solution. Heiko Gumprecht from the AfD and CDU parliamentary group leader Stephan Theuring bring suggestions for discussion, including a ticket increase for € 2.50.

sport as an important part of the community

A topic that always resonates in the background is the importance of sport for many people. According to the German Cities Day, municipalities are the largest sponsors in sports and contribute around 80 percent of the total public expenditure. Modern and multifunctional sports facilities are crucial for the attractiveness of a city and increase the quality of life of its residents. The need for a well -equipped program for sports facilities is undeniable, because the sporting activities are increasingly taking place in public space.

The ice pirates Crimmitschau are not only a sporty team, but also a lighthouse for the region. Despite the difficulties, they remain ready to talk and plan further discussions with sponsors, politicians and fans to find a solution together. Invitations to these talks will be sent in the near future. The hope is that everyone involved can show a good hand and reach an agreement, because the support for this sports location is crucial for the future of ice hockey in Crimmitschau.
