From July 28, 2025, there will be some changes in Zwickau that affect the cityscape and everyday life of the residents. Zwickauer Energieversorgung GmbH (ZEV) has announced the start of renewal of the natural gas high pressure line. This applies in particular to the Bürgerschachtstraße and Saarstraße, where the work is to be carried out in several construction phases. The first section provides for a full closure of the Bürgerschachtstraße at Saarstraße, which will last until August 3, 2025. From August 4th there will be a half -side closure with traffic light control, which should last until August 10, 2025. The total renewal of the 175 meter long line is to be completed by the end of October 2025. The aim of these measures is to prevent disruptions, as well as to ensure stable supply in the affected network section. The blocking measures were made in close coordination with the responsible authorities, and affected residents have already been informed in writing.

But that's not the only construction site that is currently causing excitement in Zwickau. In the city center, the water will remain cold for up to 30 hours in the houses connected to district heating in the next week. This measure is also part of the work of the ZEV, which is currently relocating new lines on Gewandhausstrasse. Construction manager Frank Niederwerfer specified that the heat supply from Tuesday evening, 10 p.m. to a maximum of Thursday morning, 4 a.m. "We choose the time in such a way that most people have showered and the heating is less needed," he said. The aim is to exchange 50 -year -old hot water pipes in order to reduce heat losses and improve the security of supply. This work started with tree felling at the student dormitory in January and should continue until August, whereby further short -term heat shutdowns are not excluded.
