Football for Nils: Emotional goals and gratitude in the charity tournament
On Friday evening a very special football game took place on the forest sports field in Heinrichsort. SV Heinrichsort/Rödlitz, Progress Lichtenstein and VfB Empor Glauchau celebrated in a moving way the memory of Nils Dauer, a young man of honor who died suddenly and unexpectedly on May 8, 2025 at the age of just 30. His death deeply affected not only the football community, but also many friends and acquaintances.
The charity tournament not only offered sporting entertainment, but also served a very important purpose: donations were collected during the game to support his family during this difficult time and to offer the many children and young people for whom Nils was a role model the opportunity to commemorate. The board and members of SV Heinrichsort/Rödlitz e.V. expressed their deepest condolences and set up a “mourning and memorial corner” in the athletes’ home. This corner is intended to create space for personal memories, where painted pictures and last words can be written down. It is a place that is ideal for remembering in silence and coming to terms with the loss.
An incomparable game and many goals
The shared passion for football became clear that evening. A total of 19 goals were scored in a thrilling game that consisted of three 45-minute halves. This fireworks display shows how important sport can be for the community and a successful memorial service. The players and fans came together to honor the mutual friend and fellow athlete who everyone misses so much.
A fundraising campaign was launched on the association's memorial page, which is aimed at everyone who knew and valued Nils. The things that were important to him live on through his friends and the sports community. Anyone who would like to contribute to supporting the family can do so via the platform GoFundMe do.
Nils was more than just a footballer; he was an important reference person and friend for many. It remains to be hoped that such a memorial celebration will also show others how strong the community is and that we can stick together, especially in difficult times. This selfless gesture to keep Nils permanently in our hearts is part of his joy and love for football.
The evening ended in a way that shows that Nils' memory lives on in every goal, in every laugh and every euro donated. “That’s what Nils would have wanted – to be together and share the joy of football,” said a teammate who really enjoyed the food and drink after the game.
The more we remember this, the more we will carry Nile's duration in our hearts. A truly warm evening that combined sporting success with human connection.
