Budget debacle in Callenberg: there is a risk of spending millions!
The municipality of Callenberg recently approved its budget for 2025. This step came after intensive discussions in committees and the administration, and Mayor Daniel Röthig (CDU) is optimistic. He expects certain deviations from the original budget plan, which should be positive overall. Nevertheless, there could be a deficit because expenses could exceed income by more than one million euros, as blick.de reports.
The tranquil Callenberg has around 4,700 inhabitants and consists of seven districts. Despite the financial challenges, the municipality currently has savings of 3.5 million euros, which it may have to fall back on if necessary. However, finances have performed better than expected in recent years, which could put some construction projects on hold.
Support for clubs and families
A ray of hope in these financially tense times is the approved club funding of 17,000 euros. These financial resources are intended to benefit local associations and support their work. The municipality also plans to cushion the upcoming increase in parental contributions for daycare children. An attempt is made to reduce the burden by reducing the percentage of the parents' share that has to be paid. In this context, the municipal administration is faced with costs of over 18,000 euros.
There are currently around 200 children registered in the three Callenberg daycare centers and around 160 children in the after-school care center. This figure shows how important a solid financial basis is for the care of the youngest and that the community strives to support families in their situation.
Inspection of the household
Citizens have the opportunity to raise objections within 14 working days, with the period beginning on the first day of public display. The draft will also be made available online on the municipality's homepage.
The course has been set for the financial challenges of the coming year, and it remains to be hoped that the planned measures can be successfully implemented in order to continue to keep Callenberg worth living in.
