High tension in the Steigerwaldstadion: Zwickau wants to score against Erfurt!

What's on the agenda for all football fans in Zwickau this weekend? On November 8th, the eagerly awaited top game between FSV Zwickau and FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt will kick off in the Steigerwaldstadion. It starts at 2:03 p.m. when the Zwickau hosts play against the Erfurt team, who are in third place in the table, while Zwickau is currently in fifth place. An exciting game is guaranteed because there is no lack of drama.

Coach Rico Schmitt is determined to improve his team's away record. After two defeats in a row in a foreign stadium, the pressure is on to get points. Especially in view of the last encounter in Erfurt, which Zwickau lost with a bitter 1:4, motivation should be correspondingly high. In addition to the tactical considerations, Zwickau's staffing levels are also strained. While Cemal Sezer recently returned with a goal against Luckenwalde, Sandro Sengersdorf has been out for months due to a thigh injury.

Official reopening of the Schocken department store

Another highlight in Zwickau's cultural and economic events is the official reopening of the former Schocken department store, which was celebrated on Monday. This historic building, once part of the Schocken Jewish department store group, has been extensively renovated and converted since May 2022. GP Papenburg Hochbau GmbH undertook the ambitious project for around 33 million euros, supported by the federal government, state and city. Among the approximately 150 guests at the opening were Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and Mayor Constance Arndt.

The origins of the department store go back to 1901, when Simon Schocken took over management. It is considered an important testimony to the Saxon identity and the economic history of the region. Prime Minister Kretschmer emphasized the historical significance of the Schocken and the challenges associated with the renovation under monument protection. Thanks to numerous companies and planning offices, new rental space was created, which now houses modern retail, offices and a hotel.

A successful new start

On the ground floor of the revitalized complex, the B&B Hotel and a REWE market invite you to shop and relax. City planning offices and social institutions have also rented the new premises. With a total area of around 10,400 square meters, the “Schocken” now presents itself as a modern focal point in Zwickau – for both locals and visitors.

The weekend promises more than just football for the citizens of Zwickau. While FSV Zwickau is fighting for redress against FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, a piece of history is being celebrated with the reopening of the Schocken. Zwickau is in motion, be it on the square or in urban development.
