Zwickau Children’s University: Exciting lectures for little explorers!
The West Saxon University of Zwickau (WHZ) will open its doors to inquisitive children between the ages of 8 and 12 in September 2025. As part of the popular Children's University, young explorers can attend exciting lectures that explain complex topics in an interactive and exciting way. This initiative aims not only to promote knowledge but also to stimulate interest in science and research. A real win for all little researchers!
As the city of Zwickau reports, the lectures will take place on four dates, with the first day, September 20th, featuring an exciting topic: “Being right vs. getting right – an adventure through the world of laws”. Visitors can look forward to the speaker Ulrike Oehler, who already has a lot of experience as a senior government councilor in the Saxon financial administration and a fully qualified lawyer.
A colorful program for curious minds
On October 25th, Prof. Silvio Dutz will focus on the heart as a vital organ with the lecture “Alarm! When the heart needs help”. This will be followed on November 29th by the exciting journey of discovery with Prof. René Schubert, who will give a lecture on “Africa – the fastest growing continent in our century”. Finally, on January 17, 2026, the topic of artificial intelligence will be discussed by Prof. Christoph Laroque, who will ask the children: “Mastermind or cheater?”
All lectures start at 10 a.m. and last around 45 minutes. Participants are cordially invited to appear from 9:30 a.m. So that parents and accompanying persons can also take part in the topics, a live stream is transmitted to neighboring lecture halls so that they can follow the lecture.
A free offer with exciting rewards
Participation is completely free, although advance registration is required. Every child who attends at least three of four lectures receives a WHZ Children's University diploma that records the exciting experience. In addition, the children are issued with their own student ID card on which the lectures they have attended are noted.
To sweeten the breaks, the Collage student club provides a selection of refreshing drinks. For parents who pick up their children after the lecture, there is a regular pick-up time in the foyer at 10:45 a.m. This keeps everything neat and comprehensible.
The WHZ is not alone when it comes to promoting education and science among children. Other universities, such as Mainz University, have also been running similar programs for years. While the events here are also led by highly qualified university teachers, these, like the Zwickau Initiative, are always free of charge and aim to give children an understandable understanding of complex topics in order to prepare them for the world of tomorrow.
So if you are interested in an educational and entertaining experience for your children, you should not miss the upcoming Children's University in the WHZ. There is a lot to discover and learn here - and all at no cost! Further information is available directly on the website of the city of Zwickau as well as the Zwickau University and the Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
