Riot after football game: Auerbach attacked by Plauen fans!
On Friday evening, November 8th, 2025, there were serious clashes in Auerbach after an exciting football match in the Oberliga Süd between VfB Auerbach and VFC Plauen. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, but the situation between the fan camps escalated to a dangerous level shortly after midnight. As mdr.de reports, around 20 masked fans of VFC Plauen attacked the VfB Auerbach clubhouse and caused considerable damage.
Outside the stadium the mood was already tense. When we arrived at the game, damage to the fence was discovered at Auerbach train station. In the stadium itself, fans of the visiting team set off pyrotechnics several times and verbally provoked each other. After the final whistle, some Plauen fans tried to climb over the barriers, which was prevented by stewards. This led to the police being deployed to mediate between the fan camps. Two Auerbachers and a Plauen fan were injured in these altercations.
Aggression at the clubhouse
The situation finally escalated when masked Plauen fans attacked the clubhouse at night. Two panes of glass were broken and beer bottles were thrown at the building. Fortunately, the attackers did not manage to break into the building, but a 29-year-old Auerbach fan was slightly injured. The material damage amounts to around 500 euros. This is particularly worrying as such incidents in the football scene often lead to discussions about the safety and behavior of fans.
During their investigation into suspected breaches of the peace, the police identified ten suspected men between the ages of 16 and 49. The clashes shed light on the challenges security forces face at events of this nature.
Future of football and fan behavior
The incidents in Auerbach are not isolated. They reflect a worrying pattern that is repeatedly observed at football matches. The behavior of fans, particularly during emotionally charged games, is often the focus of discussion. It remains to be hoped that those responsible will develop concepts to ensure the safety of both players and spectators so that such acts of violence become a thing of the past.
Recent events clearly show that there is more to football than just sporting rivalry and that there are urgently needed measures to improve the situation. The dialogue between clubs, fans and security authorities must be conducted more intensively in order to defuse future situations and promote respectful cooperation.
The police will continue to monitor the situation and progress the investigation. It will probably take some time in the football park before things calm down again and the joy of sport comes to the fore.
