Theater highlights in the Erzgebirge: Discover exciting plays in November!
The theater scene is coming to life in Plauen, Freiberg and Chemnitz, and there is a lot for art lovers to discover. With the play “Michael Kohlhaas” by Heinrich von Kleist, the Vogtlandtheater Plauen presents a gripping story about social division and the fight for convictions. The production, which went on stage on November 7th at 7:30 p.m., is convincing not only because of the dramatic novella on which it is based, but also because of the creative design of the clowns from the Leipzig group Compania Sincara, who enrich the piece with mask-like theatricality. The critical examination of the unfortunate horse trader Kohlhaas, who rebels against the system, was a hit among viewers. Maurice Querner from the Freie Presse emphasizes that the mixture of music, humor and depth captivates the audience and conveys the difficult topics more easily.
The MDR reports on other high-profile events. “Sophonisbe” will be performed in the Erzgebirge Music Theater on November 3rd. This work by Christian Gottlob Neefe takes the audience on a journey into the historical conflicts between East and West Numidia during the Punic Wars. The modern narrative brings a breath of fresh air into the setting, which reinterprets the historical tragedy. The performance will take place at the NETZ factory in Neukirchen on Kirchnerstrasse.
Classical comedy and dance theater
The Freiberg Theater offers an amusing treatment of hypochondria with “The Imaginary Sick” by Molière. Martin Heckmann's version ensures that this well-known comedy appears fresh and contemporary. The play can be seen on November 9th at 5 p.m. in the Freiberg Theater, which treats its audience to a running time of 100 minutes and an intermission.
For dance theater lovers, the production of “Cinderella” in the Chemnitz Opera House is a real highlight. Choreographed by Sabrina Sadowska, the classically inspired fairy tale comes to life with modern glamor and music by Sergei Prokofiev. The performance on November 2nd at 4 p.m. impresses with its innovative combination of classical ballet and contemporary elements. Critic Katarina Leuoth praised the impressive visual implementation, which takes the audience into the fashion world of the 1940s.
Memories through puppet theater
The puppet theater in Chemnitz offers another exciting offering with “Experiment on My Grandfather,” which critically examines the role of ancestors during Nazi rule. Directed by Gundula Hoffmann and Karen Breece, a story that is as touching as it is disturbing is told with puppetry and moving characters. This piece can be experienced on November 9th at 6 p.m. and on November 27th at 8 p.m. in the Spinnbau, one of Chemnitz's most famous stages. Wolfgang Schilling from MDR KULTUR highlights the emotional depth of the production, which makes you think.
