Trabant fever in Zwickau: 30 years anniversary and 816 vehicles await you!
August is just around the corner and with it a highlight for all fans of the old Eastern vehicles: From August 22nd to 24th, the 16th Trabant and Eastern Vehicles Meeting will take place on the airfield on Reichenbacher Straße in Zwickau. It is not just a meeting, but a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Trabant Club Zwickau, which has been organizing this event since 2008. After the corona-related cancellations in 2020 and 2021, the meeting can now shine again in all its glory, with a positive trend of over 800 vehicles registered last year, as Radio Zwickau reports.
The organizers, especially the club chairman Thomas Winkelmann, have put together a colorful program for the visitors. But what exactly can guests expect? First of all, all vehicles from the former GDR are welcome. On Friday, August 22nd, it starts at 10 a.m. with a special evening for “Trabant and IFA friends among themselves” in the party tent, where the party can continue until late at night.
Family-friendly fun program
Families can look forward to a variety of activities. In addition to the traditional vehicle evaluation, which takes place on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and where awards are given to the best vehicles, there are also games and competitions for young and old. Face painting, crafts, bouncy castles and even a trampoline are on the agenda. To celebrate and talk shop, there is also the opportunity to admire the old treasures such as Trabis, Wartburgs, Shigulis and more.
A very special highlight is the collaboration with the automotive experts from “autotax expert”, who will offer evaluations of the Eastern vehicles at the meeting. If you want, you can have your beloved car valued on site, be it for market value or for personal memories. This service is fairly priced, with a collective tariff that includes both digital and printed certificates, as Checkpoint Ostschrott describes in detail.
Eating and drinking for your physical well-being
From a culinary point of view, it won't be boring either. On all three days, the team in the party tent ensures the physical well-being of the visitors. The highlight is of course the home-baked cakes, which invite you to linger and enjoy.
A nice end to Saturday will be the awards ceremony starting at 7:30 p.m., followed by a party with fireworks at 9:30 p.m. that will light up the night. Admission prices are affordable at 5 euros for adults and 3 euros reduced, and entry is even free for children up to 14 years of age. It will be an unforgettable weekend for the entire family that will not only awaken old dreams but also foster new friendships.
Save the date and be there when Zwickau becomes the meeting point for all Eastern vehicle lovers!
