Frustration in Bordesholm: Citizens defend themselves against wind power plans!
in Schleswig-Holstein is the expansion of wind energy on the country's agenda, with the clear goal of showing priority areas for wind power in new regional plans until the first half of 2027. This emerges from the second draft of the state development plan wind energy, which was recently published. By July 21st, interested communities and private individuals can give their statements on the Bob.SH online platform.
The plan provides for around three percent of the country area to be used for wind energy, whereby the wind power is to be increased to 15 gigawatts by 2030. Interior Minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack emphasizes that the plan contains over 35 destinations and 34 principles of spatial planning that should control the use of wind energy. In addition, there is the obligation to protect the distance from nature and species protection areas, such as the Dosenmoor nature reserve, to which a distance of at least 100 meters must be adhered to.
discussions and frustrations on site
Despite the good intentions to promote wind energy, there are resentment and frustration in the affected municipalities. In Bordesholm and the surrounding area, the citizens and local administrations have expressed concerns about a lack of say. As part of a hearing in the summer of 2024, around 1,800 statements arrived at the state planning authority for the location north of the Dosenmoor, which comprises an area of 159 hectares. In this context, Mayor Andreas Schilling von Mühbrook expressed his dissatisfaction with the country's reaction to these statements, since Bordesholm only received general answers.
Mayor Susanne Rocksien from Negenharrie supports the energy transition, but warns for caution in the construction of wind turbines due to possible effects on the environment. So far there have been wind turbines in Loop and Groß Buchwald, with further planning that could comprehensively affect the region by 2030. According to forecasts, the Bordesholm office could contribute to the energy transition.
outlook for further planning
The state government approved the second draft of the LEP wind energy on April 29, 2025. This draft set new standards for wind energy use, and at the same time the nature conservation is strengthened. The separate approval process for the existing regulations is still valid until the new plans have been completed. Local weighing interests such as infrastructure, nature and species protection are important for future planning.
The citizens are called to express their opinions on the designs in the framework of the public participation procedure, which runs until July 21, 2025. The potential area for wind energy use in Schleswig-Holstein is around 7.2 percent of the country, of which between three to 3.3 percent should be shown as priority areas. Detailed information on the plan documents can be viewed on the platform www.bolapla-sh.de
During the expansion of wind energy, it remains crucial to take sufficient account of the needs of residents and nature conservation in order to make a sustainable and successful energy transition. More information brings KN-Online , schleswig-holstein.de and Stadt-und-werk up to date.
