Eckernförde, Deutschland - The city of Eckernförde has taken measures to be able to counter a growing problem with seagulls. From June 11th, a ban on feeding for seagulls in the city center, at the harbor and on the main and south beach will come into force. Mayor Iris Ploog (SPD) is forced to introduce this regulation through numerous complaints from the population. The increase in the seaworthy population, especially the silver gull (Larus Argentatus), is attributed to an abundant food supply. Waste from fishing, dumps and sewage treatment plants offer the birds in urban areas of sufficient food resources.
