Together strong: living healthy through sport and addiction prevention in Leipzig!

Leipzig, Deutschland - on May 29, 2025, during the International German Gymnastics Festival in Leipzig, the cooperation agreement between the Federal Institute for Public Health (BIÖG), the German Turner Association (DTB) and the German Gymnastics (DTJ) was renewed. This partnership, which has existed since 1994, focuses on addiction prevention and healthy aging. The aim is to provide support for a healthy and active life and in particular to promote young people. Dr. Johannes Nießen, the head of the BIÖG, emphasized the importance of cooperation for prevention work. Dr. Alfons Hölzl from the DTB emphasized that the association participated in the prevention work with movement offers in over 20,000 clubs.

A central point of the initiative is the hands-on campaign "make children strong", which aims at addiction prevention. This initiative is intended to support children and adolescents to adopt healthy lifestyles and keep themselves away from addictive substances. Christian Keipert from the DTJ underlined the importance of early health promotion. Free materials and action boxes are available for trainers to actively implement the programs.

sport as a healthy alternative

The "Enjoy alcohol -free sport" campaign, which was created by the Federal Center for Health Education (BZGA), sets a clear sign against alcohol in the sports environment. Sports clubs are encouraged to organize non -alcoholic events to protect children and adolescents from the negative effects of addictive substances. This means that coaches and club management take an important role model function. Your responsibility and the conscious handling of alcohol have a direct impact on the attitudes of young people.

The German swimming youth supports this initiative and contributes to the risks of alcohol consumption. Group and justification pressure and alcohol excesses should be actively prevented in order to create a healthy sports environment, shaped by community sense. The encouragement for non -alcoholic activities aims to increase the availability of healthy alternatives.

prevention by enlightenment

The BZGA also carries out the “Make children strong” campaign, which is aimed specifically at adults who are responsible for children and adolescents - especially to supervisors in sports clubs. These programs aim to sensitize the supervisors and to offer them practical help for addiction prevention. Training and qualification offers have been provided in cooperation with large German sports associations since the 1990s.

An evaluation study examines the effectiveness of these measures and provides information about their accessibility. The study pursues goals such as the knowledge and competence growth of the target group as well as the long-term establishment of addictive activities in the clubs. Recommendations and approaches to further develop the training offers are also derived there.

Contact options are available for further information and material orders. The initiatives aim to ensure that children and adolescents can go through life healthy and actively, which is of enormous importance not only for the individual, but also for society.
