Großkarlbach celebrates Mühlentag: Tradition meets enjoyment and culture!
On Whit Monday, June 5, 2025, Großkarlbach will once again be a center for mill friends and those interested in culture. On this day, the municipality takes part in the German Mühlentag, which is organized by the German Society for Mill Studies and Mühlenwisten (DGM) e.V. Many historical mills in Germany, a total of around 650, open their doors and present themselves with a varied program.
Thomas Hansemann, member of the village mill association, commented on the importance of the festival in an interview. "We have been organizing the German mill day in Großkarlbach together with the seven mills of art and cultural association for over 15 years," said Hansemann. The development of the festival, which has become increasingly important for the local community, is particularly exciting, as well as Rheinpfalz.de reported.
a multifaceted program
The program of the mill day in Großkarlbach takes place in the Mühlenmuseum "Alte Dorfmühle". The event is designed as a social get -together with numerous surprises. Guests can enjoy local wines from Großkarlbacher Winzern and let themselves be spoiled with food from the seven mill cuisine, including Tafelspitz with horseradish sauce, Elvira's lentil salad and home -protected salmon.
On this special day there are also guided tours through the mill museum and the opportunity to take a walk to the other mills in Großkarlbach. The Pappelmühle, Heckmühle and Rheinmühle are accessible to visitors over the Whit Monday, which offers a deep insight into the old miller trade.
a tradition with history
The German mill day has 30 years of history and was inspired by the Dutch mill friends who have been celebrating a similar day of action since 1973. The first German mill day took place in 1994, and since then the event has developed into an integral part of the German cultural landscape. On this day, wind, water, steam and engine chairs present their cultural asset and invite visitors to enjoy small festivals, tours and musical performances, as it is emphasized Deutschee-müehlen.de
Millage day is not only a way to get to know the technology and history of the mills, but also an opportunity to get in touch with the community and to maintain traditions. The Mühlenmuseum in Großkarlbach becomes a cultural center of a celebration that is of great interest not only for the villagers, but also for visitors from the area.
