Wortmann, who has been painting since her school time and took her first painting course with Johannes Pätzold, pursues the goal of establishing the emotional connection to these topics and bringing the viewers closer to the needs of the presented.

artistic inspiration and background

The inspiration for the current exhibition was created after the terrorist attack on Charlie Hebdo's editorial team in January 2015, in which twelve people were killed. This attack, which changed the political and social landscape sustainably, forms an important context for many contemporary artists. Wortmann often uses press photos as the basis for their acrylic work, diluting the colors to achieve a transparent color application.

Dörthe Meyer Simoes, the head of the mayor's office, describes the exhibition as an urgent presentation of necessities that touches and stimulates thinking. It emphasizes that the emotional connection as a mother has a special impact on looking at the works shown.

art as a mirror of society

Wortmann's work are part of a wider trend in contemporary art, which aims to reflect and address social problems. Artists use their works to draw attention to social, political and ecological questions and thus stimulate a dialogue on urgent topics such as social injustice, migration and climate change. This also became clear in the artistic intervention on the occasion of the ten -year memory of the attack on Charlie Hebdo, which takes place from 7th to January 26th, 2025 in cooperation with several museums.

Works by contemporary artists such as Coco and G. Haderer are shown in this intervention. They address dealing with social suffering and illustrate the role of art as a tool for social change and change.

Overall, the exhibition of Wortmann shows the power of art to raise social issues, enable critical reflections and to send hope for change. It stands in accordance with the growing awareness of the responsibility of artists in a globalized world in which every work can contribute to addressing and fighting grievances.

The vernissage and the entire exhibition can be regarded as valuable contributions to the current discussion about the role of art and its influence on our society. Wortmann's commitment and the relevance of their topics are therefore important both locally and globally.
