Communicate science in an understandable way: Panel discussion in Lübeck

Maria-Göppert-Str. 15, 23562 Lübeck, Deutschland - On Thursday, June 5, 2025, a panel discussion for science communication takes place in Lübeck. The event, organized by the Biotechnological Student Initiative (BTS) Lübeck, begins at 4:30 p.m. in the MFC9-S06, Maria-Göppert-Str. 15. In particular, students, doctoral students and interested parties are invited to take part in this important discussion.

The panel discussion is dedicated to central issues of science communication. This includes the understandable communication of one's own research, characteristics of good science communication and entry opportunities for prospective science communicators: inside. The constructive handling of criticism is also discussed. Podium guests like Prof. Dr. Martin Smollich and Dr. Anja Stähle brought her expertise into the discussion, followed by an exchange for drinks and snacks after the official event.

The relevance of science communication

like Spirit- and-- social sciences-bmbf.de , science communication is becoming increasingly important. Due to the diversity and complexity of science, it is essential that results are formulated in an understandable way. This requires not only the explanation of principles and methods, but also a dialogue between scientists: inside, representatives: inside of the different disciplines and experts: inside from politics and media.

The presentation of the perspectives from different disciplines promotes a better understanding of the need for the mediation of science and illuminates suitable paths and formats. At previous events there are scientists: inside like Prof. Dr. Antje Boetius and Clemens performed up to share their perspectives in the debate.

The role of universities in science communication

The monthly research review of Science Communication.de addresses the university communication and its influence on science communication. An investigation by the University of Zurich has shown that decentralized voices from doctoral students play a crucial role in communication inside, researchers and students. These decentralized votes represent 81% of the votes examined, while central voices, such as the university management, only make up 2.4%.

The analysis was based on the evaluation of tweets and interactions on the Twitter platform (X) and revealed deeper insights into the public perception of the universities. The study underlines the need to understand science communication as a central component of public relations and shows that both academic spaces and science communication can contribute to inclusion and diversity in research.

The upcoming event in Lübeck is not only a way for students to communicate their own research clearly, but also to actively participate in the discussion about the role of science in society. Registration in advance is requested for better planning.
