Stefan Kerth clearly wins in the district council election in Vorpommern-Rügen!

This day of the runoff election in Vorpommern-Rügen, the independent district administrator Stefan Kerth was confirmed with 75.1 percent of the vote. Kerth prevailed against AfD applicant Carlos Dias Rodrigues, who received 24.9 percent of the vote. The voters opted for Kerth, who won a clear victory. Nevertheless, the turnout was lower in the runoff election than in the first ballot on May 11, where it was 44.8 percent.

In an impressive way, Kerth was able to win in 101 of the 102 municipalities in the region. The municipality of Ahrenshoop stands out under the particularly strong results, in which he received over 80 percent of the vote. Even in Altenpleen, his challenger Dias Rodrigues performed well and received 51.2 percent of the votes, while the votes in Löbnitz and Drechow were disproportionately narrow: Dias Rodrigues achieved 49.1 percent or 47.3 percent.

Kerth's strong backing in Barth was particularly remarkable, where he was mayor until 2018 and was now able to achieve 79.4 percent of the vote. In some other municipalities, including Buschvitz, Dranske and Franzburg, Dias Rodrigues also received over 40 percent of the vote despite his defeat. In his own community of Sagard, however, Dias Rodrigues had to accept a bitter defeat and won only 30.3 percent of the votes.

The new election outcome also allows conclusions to be drawn about the challenges with which Kerth will be faced with its second term.
