Stralsund Bürgergarten shines in new splendor: opening ceremony planned!

Stralsund, Deutschland - Stralsund has been experiencing a renaissance of his citizens' garden since the Stralsund Innovation Consult (sic) took over the company in autumn 2024. After a long legal dispute, the site was solemnly returned to the city in early September. Mayor Alexander Badrow informed about the return at a citizens' meeting, which is an important step to revive the popular excursion destination. The aim of the SIC is to open the community garden as quickly as possible for the citizens after it was closed for around a year and a half.

On May 1, 2025, the Bürgergarten finally opened its doors under the new direction. While SIC employees work on the site to carry out urgently needed maintenance work, a first refreshment at the kiosk is already reflected. The wood cladding has been repainted, but the gastronomic equipment is still pending. In order to keep the visitors happy during the renovation work, a snack car from the lido provides guests with snacks such as bratwurst and fries.

For the upcoming events in the Bürgergarten, in particular for men's day and children's day, additional culinary offers are planned. These are prepared in the new kitchen of the SIC. DJ Rudi provides entertainment on the men's day, while children can expect a colorful program with ice cream, a bouncy castle and face painting on children's day. This again becomes a popular destination for families and day trippers.

future prospects

The SIC not only wants to upgrade the catering sector, but also to expand the offer for children and young people. It is checked whether children's and youth work in the Bürgergarten is possible in cooperation with the Stralsund Kanu Club. There are also considerations for a future boat rental at the knee pond, which has lost attractiveness in recent years by silting up.

Return to simple and affordable gastronomy under the motto "Fair for everyone" has a top priority. The condition of the citizens' garden is crucial for the future use and attractiveness of the area. SIC managing director Maximilian Schwarz emphasizes that there is still a lot to do to preserve and develop the tradition of the citizens' garden.

Hope for a successful revival of the citizens' garden is great and the first steps in the right direction have already been taken. With a firm will and many ideas, the community garden could soon be an attraction for Stralsunder and tourists alike.
