Stralsund sailing week 2025: The Maritime Highlight of the Year!

Stralsund, Deutschland - This year's Stralsund sailing week promises to become a highlight in the maritime calendar. From June 11th to 15th, 2024, the event will take place for the 75th time and attract both regatta professionals and family crews. The Stralsund sailing week has developed into an integral part of the German regatta calendar since it was founded in 1949. It was founded after the war damage in the harbor and sail area by the “Anker” sports association in order to revive the tradition of sailing on site, reports the Ostsee-Zeitung.

This year 67 boats have already been registered, including 31 for the popular "Rügen" regatta and 24 for the Hiddensee tour. The largest number of participants was reached in 1987 with 378 boats started. The regattas offer an exciting program: On the first day, the Wednesday Regatta is on the plan, followed by a solemn opening.

regattas and highlights

A special highlight will be the night regatta "Rügen" on June 13, which leads over around 80 nautical miles. The sail route around the island of Rügen comprises numerous spectacular landscapes, including the passage through the southern strelasund and past Cape Arkona. The start will take place on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m., and the regattas are open to Sea Cross and multi-hull boats with security category 3 of DSV e.V. Beginners can also show their skills at the Newcomer Cup on Saturday, while the weekend is still filled with children's and youth regattas, the information on the Event platform .

The regatta "Round Hiddensee" on Saturday will cover a distance of about 43 nautical miles. Depending on the wind direction conditions and scoring criteria, the participating boats are divided into different groups. There is even a special evaluation group for the new sports boat Dehler 30od.

the maritime context

The Stralsund sailing week is part of a wider maritime culture in Germany. Maritime festivals and regattas are not only a way for sailors to measure themselves together, but also offer the public insight into the world of seafaring. The cancellation of all Corona restrictions in Germany enables such family-friendly events to take place in full, which is also reflected in the number of participants, complements the HafenTiTIP .
