Construction site chaos in summer: full closures and diversions in Thuringia!
Drivers in Königsee will have to prepare for disruptions in the next two weeks. How MDR reported, the B88 will be completely closed, and this affects the section between Gartenstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse in both directions. A clever route via Oberschöbling, Dröbischau, Herschdorf and Pennewitz ensures a smooth diversion. There are also extensive construction sites in Katzhütte.
In Katzhütte, Neuhäuser Straße will be closed from Monday until the end of the week; Here you have to accept diversions via Cursdorf and Meuselbach-Schwarzmühle. The same regulation applies to Großbreitenbacher Straße in Katzhütte until July 18th, although the diversion via Schwarzmühle, Böhlen and Großbreitenbach is also very important here. A lot is happening - and not just in the road infrastructure.
Current construction projects in Jena
The city of Jena is also not spared from construction sites. After a year, the track work on Ernst-Abbe-Platz has finally been completed and trams lines 1 and 4 are running to the university campus again. However, the project turned out to be more expensive and lengthy than expected. From Monday, another construction site will be launched on Kahlaische Straße. The municipal utilities are replacing almost 400 meters of gas and drinking water pipes as well as power cables. The investment amounts to a significant 445,000 euros and the road will be completely closed until August 8th.
During these construction work, the Mühlenstrasse stop will not be accessible. Tram line 2 will temporarily only run from Jena-Ost via the city center to Felsenkeller and back. Dejection on the one hand, but that also shows how important road construction is in Germany. Loud Statista The federal highway network will have already reached an extent of around 13,200 kilometers in 2023. Road construction plays a key role in expanding the infrastructure and should be further promoted in the coming years.
Construction sites in Jena and the surrounding area
Several construction sites are being planned in the urban area of Jena that affect the mobility of citizens:
- Am alten Weinberg: Vollsperrung bis 04.07.2025 wegen Tiefbauarbeiten.
- Burgauer Weg: Vollsperrung bis 25.07.2025 zur Durchführung von Tiefbauarbeiten.
- Camburger Straße (Geh-/Radweg): Vollsperrung bis 04.07.2025.
- Ernst-Thälmann-Straße: Vollsperrung bis 30.10.2025 wegen Leitungsausbau.
- Dammstraße: Vollsperrung bis 08.08.2025 für Leitungsverlegung.
- Forstweg: Vollsperrung bis 20.12.2026 wegen Brückenbau.
The list of construction sites is long and clearly shows that road construction is an indispensable part of the city's infrastructure. Despite the challenges, such as temporary closures and diversions, work is underway to sustainably renew the traffic routes - and that is in the interests of all road users. Despite the many construction sites, Jena is keeping the transport infrastructure running and shows that investments amounting to around 8.5 billion euros for trunk roads are expected here in the near future.
The commitment to road construction is therefore being promoted not only in the city, but also at the national level, with a further increase in investments being forecast to almost 9.8 billion euros by 2028. Whether on foot, by bike or in the car – all road users are invited to keep an eye on the current diversions and roadworks.
