A tragic traffic accident occurred on State Road 1006 between Flinsberg and Heiligenstadt on Sunday morning. A 44-year-old driver left the road around 10:15 a.m. for reasons that are still unclear and crashed his VW head-on into a tree. The man died at the scene of the accident, like that Göttingen Tageblatt reported.
The fire brigades from Flinsberg, Heiligenstadt and Kalteneber were on site with a total of 28 helpers to support the emergency services in the difficult rescue operation. Despite the rapid deployment of a rescue helicopter and the use of hydraulic rescue equipment, the emergency doctor could only determine that the driver was dead when he arrived. A thorough police investigation into the cause of the accident is already underway.
