In Erfurt, at the picturesque Bartholomäusturm, there is an acute danger for passers-by and the city administration has therefore taken immediate measures. How Thuringia24 Reportedly, stones are coming loose from the tower's masonry, particularly affecting the west facade towards the Wigberti Church and the north side towards the roof garden of the Hotel Alma. Barriers and carpet buffers were installed to prevent accidents.
The so-called facing side of the tower, however, appears to be in a stable condition - there are no known falling stones here. Due to the situation, an area on the Anger, specifically from Anger 51 (where the Peterknecht bookstore is located) to Anger 53 (shop window of “name it”), was closed. This of course causes some confusion and inconvenience, compared to the fountain and the bench on the tower, which are also currently inaccessible.
Measures and outlook
Arne Ott, head of the building management office, has already informed that the city is looking for a specialist company to carry out the necessary repair work. These are essential because parts of the facade also fell onto the roof garden of the Hotel Alma. The city plans to begin repairs no later than mid-July. Despite the necessary work, the popular carillon concerts at the Bartholomäusturm will continue to take place - good news for all music lovers!
These concerts are a real eye-catcher and enrich cultural life in Erfurt. The carillon strikes every hour on the hour, starting with four strikes at 10 a.m. and then in the evening at 8 p.m. with a total of eight strikes. The history museums also offer those interested insights into this historic tower and its impressive melodies.
The people of Erfurt are certainly looking forward to the repairs that will soon take place and that the Bartholomäusturm will soon shine in its full splendor again. Until then, keep your eyes open and be careful when strolling around this historic place!
