Vera Siemund will work as a city goldsmith in Erfurt until August 3, 2023. Your work includes an impressive special exhibition in the Angermuseum, where it will show the results of the 20th Erfurt jewelry symposium. The vernissage will take place on August 2, 2023 at 4 p.m. in the foyer of the Angermuseum. Not only their own works come into their own, but also the work of ten other jewelry artists: inside that will take part in the symposium.

a studio scholarship and many talents

Vera Siemund was selected by a jury in December 2024 to receive a studio scholarship of 4,000 euros. With this scholarship, she will work in the artist workshops of the state capital Erfurt until August 3, 2025. In the applications for the scholarship, over 15 jewelry artists were represented: from all over the world, from Germany to Belgium to Argentina and China, which drew attention to themselves with their traditionally manufactured jewelry and innovative, conceptual approaches.

The jury was particularly impressed by Siemund's graphically shaped design approach and its manual perfection. In her work she addresses architecture and ornament and uses traditional techniques in a contemporary form. This is shown in their jewelry, which are often provided with stylistic quotations of past epochs.

goldsmithing through the centuries

The roots of goldsmithing go back to ancient times. Already in the 5th millennium BC BC there were significant certificates in Europe that extend over different cultures. The techniques of the goldsmithing trade were refined by the Celts and Teutons and remained in Romanesque, and bourgeois workshops became more important. In the Gothic and Renaissance, too, the craft experienced an upswing, as a goldsmith for both services and for secular purposes.

Today, goldsmithing is not only a technical discipline, but also a creative form of expression that artists use inside like Vera Siemund to realize their visions. The so -called change of jewelry that you can find in your work reflects the constant evolution of this handicraft tradition and shows how it continues in the digital age.

Overall, Vera Siemund's stay in Erfurt will certainly attract many lovers and interested parties of goldsmithing. The open day on June 24th is a perfect opportunity to learn more about your work and your approach. Don't miss the chance to learn more about the fascinating world of jewelry and maybe even admire one or two pieces of jewelry!

We look forward to creative developments and remember how rich the tradition of goldsmithing and its influence on today's art scene are.
