Erfurt under shock: Tier torture throws pigeon chicks from the balcony!

Erfurt, Deutschland - In Erfurt, a shocking incident of cruelty to animals has heated the minds. A resident was accused of threw deaf chicks from his balcony on the third floor. This reports Thuringia24. Witnesses report that a woman on June 13th watched her neighbor swept the chick called "Nisha" onto the street with brutal approach. The chick fell about ten meters and died of the inner injuries suffered within two hours. Her siblings "Amela" survived the fall, but internal injuries cannot be ruled out here either.

The eyewitness tried desperately to keep the man from it, but her words fell unnoticed. Despite its survival, the second chick was also confronted with a similar fate. The association then filed a complaint against the alleged animal torture and demands an appropriate punishment, because such acts scream according to consequences.

cruel attack on the city pigeon

The latest incident is not the only one who could raise animal rights activists in the capital of Thuringia. Another case concerns the “Lisbeth” city pigeon, which was willfully mutilated. According to a report on Rosenheim24, Lisbeth was cut off all flywheels and the tail feathers were torn out. Animal rights activists are horrified by this sadistic attack, which has to cause the animal immense pain. The back of the springs will take a long time and would have to be accelerated by a veterinarian, since remaining spring keels have to be torn out under anesthesia. The pigeon will also need care for weeks or even months before it can return to its familiar surroundings.

The "Erfurt Töben" association calls on the capture of the person responsible to report information from the population. The helplessness of the animals becomes particularly obvious in such circumstances and the animal rights activists repeatedly experience that the number of cruelty to animals increases.

cruelty to animals as a systematic problem

A look at the nationwide statistics shows that cruelty to animals is a widespread problem. Together with Ariwa and Soko animal protection, the Aninova platform launched the "Map of the cruelty to animals". This interactive Germany map has documented animal welfare scandals since 2016 and shows a frightening record of 214 cases until July 2024. It is particularly alarming that most of these cases come from cattle husbandry. Hardly any advertisement has so far led to significant consequences - only 4 out of 214 cases ended with a prison sentence.

The intensive and dramatic view of these incidents leaves many questions: Where is the protected right of the animals? The discussion about hiding cattle is sounded, but the necessary legislation seems to stand still. It remains to be hoped that the recent incidents in Erfurt, which collect both local and nationwide attention, will lead to a sustainable reform in animal welfare law.

measured by how often similar acts occur in society and hardly have any consequences, the recent incidents are only the tip of the ice -grown problem that we have to approach here in Germany and across borders.
