Erfurt-Weimar Airport is booming: 121% more holiday passengers in 2025!
Erfurt-Weimar Airport recorded impressive growth during the 2025 summer holidays. In the last six weeks, almost 64,000 passengers were handled, a remarkable increase of 121 percent compared to the previous year. This is also reflected in the numbers: around 28,800 more travelers than during the 2024 summer holidays are using the airport's comprehensive offering. The most popular travel destinations for holidaymakers were the Turkish Riviera in Antalya, Mallorca, Hurghada and Crete, all of which were very popular, as airliners.de reports.
Particularly noteworthy is July 2025, which was the busiest summer month in the last two decades with 42,600 passengers. The airlines seem to have had a good knack for putting together their flights, as SunExpress transported around 20,000 passengers, followed by Eurowings with almost 9,500 and Air Cairo with over 5,800 travelers. Managing director Susanne Hermann speaks of successful acquisition work and emphasizes that, with a few exceptions, all flights were departed on time.
More flight connections for travelers
In order to meet the demand of holidaymakers, a wide range of flights was created. From August 1, 2025, numerous connections ran to popular destinations such as Mallorca and Antalya. Antalya is well connected with various airlines such as Corendon and Pegasus, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays. But there are also attractive flights scheduled for the rest of the week that will take travelers to Crete and Hurghada.
- Montag: Mallorca (PMI) – Eurowings, Antalya (AYT) – SunExpress, Hurghada (HRG) – Air Cairo
- Dienstag: Antalya (AYT) – Mavi Gök Airlines, Mallorca (PMI) – Eurowings, Hurghada (HRG) – Air Cairo
- Mittwoch bis Sonntag: Vielzahl an Verbindungen nach den beliebtesten Zielen
In addition, special trips are being offered for the coming summer holidays, including, for example, Santorini and A Coruña. The flight connections are valid until October 25, 2025 and show that the airport is a lively starting point for travelers, as the airport's official website highlights: flughafen-erfurt-weimar.de.
Growth forecasts and trends in the region
While Erfurt-Weimar Airport is flourishing, other German regional airports are not standing still either. A look at the current trends shows that Cologne/Bonn Airport in particular is expecting a record wave of travel during the North Rhine-Westphalian summer holidays. More than 1.76 million travelers are expected there, which puts the airport in a top position. The highest point was reached on August 8, 2025 with 41,000 travelers, as reported by aviation.direct.
These figures not only illustrate the increased interest in travel, but also show that German airports are prepared to strategically respond to the needs of passengers. Overall, the first half of 2025 was characterized by solid growth for many airports, despite the challenges caused by the loss of flight connections.
Erfurt-Weimar Airport is building on the successful development of recent years and appears to be well on its way to continuing to grow as a regional transport hub. With a large number of flight connections and positive passenger development, management and travelers are equally optimistic about the future. So the airport clearly remains in the conversation - and not just in Erfurt!
