Volunteering in Gera: Submit proposals for awards now!
Committed citizens, pay attention! In the city of Gera, voluntary work is valued highly. On December 5th, the International Volunteer Day, a special annual event is held to recognize the achievements of volunteers. This tradition, which has been promoted by the UN since 1985 and has replaced the previous Volunteer Day on December 2nd in Germany, not only offers an occasion for celebration, but also an opportunity to focus on outstanding civic engagement.
As the mayor emphasized on the occasion of these celebrations, it is the numerous volunteers who hold our society together. They make valuable contributions in a wide variety of areas, be it sports or social institutions, cultural projects or environmental initiatives. This also corresponds to the results of an analysis that shows that almost 16 million people in Germany are active on a voluntary basis. One more reason to give them the thanks they deserve!

Churches and charities also offer numerous opportunities for those who want to give of their time. The need for volunteers is constantly growing, especially among organizations like food banks, which are receiving increasing requests for food donations, according to data from Statista.
