Theater Altenburg-Gera: Season break, but great summer events ahead!
The Altenburg Gera Theater is in a celebratory mood, because from June 30th the venue will say goodbye to the well-deserved season break. Before that, however, there is an exciting program on the agenda that will liven up the last few days before the break. Theater enthusiasts can look forward to the open-air experience “The Way of Orpheus,” which will take place on August 22nd at 8:30 p.m. This special event is implemented in the form of a station theater and takes the audience through various locations from the Hofgut Gera to the theater. As the Theater Altenburg-Gera reports, the production tells of Orpheus' fate and combines mythology with music history.
The open-air theater premiere of “The Way of Orpheus” is not only a feast for the eyes, but also an acoustic journey. Directed by Kay Kuntze, the audience is accompanied along the journey of Orpheus, which leads from exhilaration to sadness, from the passage of Hades to the kiss of the Muses. The music includes pieces from composers such as Monteverdi and Haydn to contemporary sounds from Philip Glass. This successful mixture gives the audience a deep insight into the development of opera and music over the centuries.
Opening times and events
The theater box office has changed opening hours during the season break. In Gera it is open on Thursdays from July 24th to August 4th between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Altenburg is waiting for the guests at the same time, but on Tuesdays. From August 5th we will return to regular opening hours. Tickets for the coming 2025/26 season can now be booked online.
