Tierpark Gera opens new attraction: Azara-agutis and lion cheese!

Gera, Deutschland - In the Gera zoo, something happens! The popular place for animal lovers has received two new residents who are now inhabitant the redesigned former meter of cats: two Azara-agutis and two gold head lions. With these newcomers, the zoo not only presents fascinating animal species, but also the result of an impressive renovation, which was promoted by volunteers from the Tierpark Gera e.V. The measures included the merging of two enclosures as well as the installation of large glass panes, new windows and doors.

Steffen Horn, deputy animal park manager, emphasizes the importance of volunteering. The sponsoring association was founded in 2024 and has actively worked on the circulation of the facilities in the past twelve months. The Azara-Agutis, which had already been drawn in May, came from various zoos in Germany: the female comes from the “Zoo der Minis” in Aue, while the male arrived from the Ströhen zoo in Lower Saxony. Before their arrival, the new residents initially settled in behind the scenes.

an eye -catcher for the visitors

The gold head lions, which were brought to the zoo from the Zoological Station Wassenberg a few days ago, are another highlight in the redesigned enclosures. The upgrading of the former meter cat, which previously housed dwarf silk chops, now ensures that the new animal roommates can live under optimal conditions. The interior areas have not only been technically improved, but also visually upgraded. A lifting blanket and a new watercourse with artificial rock offer a homely ambience for the monkeys.

With the new animals not only grows biodiversity in the Geraer Zoo, but also the awareness of nature conservation. In view of over a million animal species that are threatened worldwide, participations and sponsorships are particularly important for the care of such animals. These sponsorships enable financial support to attend species and contribute to the preservation of habitats. Interested parties have the opportunity to find out about animal sponsorships directly in the zoo and thus make a valuable contribution.

sponsorships are not only a way to support the animals, but also offer emotional added value: sponsors regularly receive information about their protégés and can gain exclusive insights into the projects of the zoo. In this way, contact with the new residents of the Geraer Zoo remains exciting and becomes an experience for the whole family.

The lovingly designed zoo in Gera has not only increased its attractiveness with the Azara-Agutis and Gold Head Löwenöffchen, but also created a committed network of supporters, which has become an important institution in the field of animal protection and nature protection through volunteer work and sponsorships. Visit the zoo and experience the new animal members who certainly make the heart of every animal lover beat faster!
