Krämerbrückenfest in Erfurt: 150,000 visitors celebrate despite the heat!

Last weekend, the old town of Erfurt was transformed into a happy festival for young and old: The Krämerbrückenfest, the largest old town festival in Thuringia, attracted around 150,000 visitors this year. From June 13th to 15th, people in the city center celebrated a peaceful festival, despite the high temperatures. How MDR Thuringia reported that the mood remained positive throughout, which was certainly also due to the great artist performances.

The various stages were occupied with a colorful program, including the popular acts Vicky Vomit, Jürgen Kerth and Roy Bianco & the Abbrunzati Boys. The highlight of the festival was a breathtaking fireworks display on Saturday evening that lit up the night over Erfurt. On Sunday, Johannes-Michael Noack and Timo Hartmann from MDR THÜRINGEN, accompanied by singer Markus, moderated the program on Cathedral Square.

High level security precautions

In view of the current security situation, the arrangements for the Krämerbrückenfest have been expanded this year. Against the backdrop of security concerns that were heightened by the shooting at the Magdeburg Christmas market, the city reacted promptly and implemented a more stringent security concept. The city center was closed to car traffic and barriers were set up on Cathedral Square and Marktstrasse. Access from Anger to Marktstrasse was also no longer available. Day24 describes that the new regulations have been clearly communicated to all visitors in order to avoid unnecessary disruption.

As a result of the measures taken, the police were only able to register a total of 16 crimes, which primarily included thefts, physical injuries and some drunk driving. A drugged man even injured a police officer, but fortunately that was the only notable incident. The security concept seems to have worked because there were no major incidents to report.

Challenges for the region

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, there was also dark news from the region on Sunday: heavy rain showers led to flooding in Bad Berka and the surrounding area. Streets were sometimes up to 30 cm under water, which put fire departments in several cities on alert. The German Weather Service also warned of further rainfall in large parts of Thuringia.

Particularly noteworthy was an incident in Döllstedt, where a driver was stopped with a burning tire. The man, who had a blood alcohol level of 1.35, was charged with drunk driving while the fire department put out the fire.

Overall, the Krämerbrückenfest has once again proven that it is a real affair of the heart for the people of Thuringia. With a celebratory conclusion and optimistic thoughts about the next festivities, we can only hope that future events can also take place in such a positive atmosphere. With a solid security concept developed by professionals such as mueller event service, is supported, visitors and organizers can be guaranteed a safe celebration with a clear conscience.
