Beerathlon and Backhausfest: Hildburghausen celebrates together!

There was a lot going on last weekend in Hildburghausen, in the picturesque district of Wallrabs. The Beerathlon attracted numerous participants and spectators, and the tried-and-tested event – the Backhausfest – delighted visitors with its culinary delicacies. In the bright summer weather, the focus was on the village community, and the many activities contributed to the festive atmosphere.

Participant Marie-Theres Beyer was part of a motivated team at the Beerathlon. This creative twist on the classic biathlon not only challenged the athletes physically, but also offered a fun atmosphere that extended throughout the main events. The celebrations also included the anniversary of the local history association, which this year looks back on an impressive 30 years, as well as a cooperation with the fair association founded in 2016.

Treats and encouragement

The Backhausfest was another highlight of the weekend. The first bratwursts had to be reordered here on Friday, such was the demand. On Saturday, over 50 trays of onion and bacon cake went over the counter - they were sold out after just four hours. The fish sandwiches were also very popular and were quickly sold out. Homemade cakes and tarts from the club members were also very well received.

The guests not only indulged in culinary delights, the drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, were also in high demand. The pond in the Wied offered bathers welcome refreshment with temperatures between 12 and 15°C. The spectators were able to sit back and relax, many showed their appreciation with applause, while the staff in the festival tents worked diligently to ensure that everyone didn't lack for anything.

Acknowledgments and outlook

After a busy weekend it was time to clean up on Sunday. The two club chairmen Jens Roterberg and Michael Bumann took the opportunity to thank all helpers and supporters - without their commitment such an event would not have been possible. The celebrations and the Beerathlon were a nice demonstration of the solidarity and fun in the community.

In the coming weeks, the region will continue to be dominated by something unusual, such as the Ilmenau Beerathlon, which takes place on Thursday, June 13th. Here, teams of 3 to 4 people compete to climb the summit of the Kickelhahn as quickly as possible with a crate of beer and enjoy the cool drinks. Such events are very popular and contribute to the revitalization of the community.

For anyone interested in learning more about the events, information about the Beerathlon is available at Bergfest e.V. and the news from Wallrabs below Wallrabs to find. Also reported in southern Thuringia over the weekend in Hildburghausen.
