Vintage team: BMW C1 fans conquer Masserberg in the Thuringian Forest!
The hearts of classic car fans beat faster: From June 19 to 21, 2025, the supporters of the BMW C1 in Masserberg are gathering at the now 21st international meeting. It is unique that there has only been a corona -related failure once since the first event. Participants from Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy and even Austria are expected to become the meeting forchestra. The exchange of friendships, petrol talks and repair tips is very popular.
A special highlight are the common trips in groups of 10 to 15 drivers. These tours lead the members through the attractive surroundings of Masserberg and the Thuringian Forest. Nine different routes are drawn up that extend to Bad Staffelstein, Bad Tabarz, Meiningen and Meura. There is a “women's program” for the accompanying wives, which makes the meeting even more attractive.
fans and their treasures
Currently over 100 registrations have already been received, and the participants spend the night in the Hotel Rennsteig. Many bring their beloved C1 scooters in motorhomes or on a trailer. The BMW C1, which was produced from 2000 to 2003, has now become a real classic car. The advantages of this special scooter are undisputed: it offers excellent maneuverability, protects against bad weather and can be driven without motorcycle clothing and helmet. It also offers a large trunk, which makes it particularly popular with vacation trips.
The C1 was designed as an answer to the needs of drivers who find driving on motorcycles insecure. The project manager Bernd Nettsch developed the idea during an ideas competition at BMW Technik GmbH, which began in 1990. His goal was to create a scooter with a high level of security that also offers weather protection and ergonomics. The market launch in 2000 initially saw great success with 10,614 units sold, but the number of sales quickly reduced to only 2,000 units annually.
building history and technical refinements
The C1 models, 125 cm³ and 200 cm³, were mounted in Turin and are based on a modified Rotax engine. The design was presented at the IFMA two -wheeler fair in Cologne in autumn 1992. Security features such as the stable frame structure, seat belts and the option on driving without a helmet make this model unique. The closed construction ensures additional protection against weathering influences.
The technical details include a displacement of 124.91 cm³ for the C1 125 and an output of 15 HP. The top speed is around 110 km/h. Despite the initial joy of innovation due to the high price and the maintenance costs, the C1 experienced a cult status development, since numerous clubs for C1 owners were created that promote the exchange and passion for this extraordinary vehicle. The fans of the BMW C1 are already looking forward to the annual meeting in Masserberg, where they can share their passion for this unique vehicle with like -minded people. The BMW C1 is not just a scooter, but a piece of automotive -historical passion and community that finds special recognition today.
