Ilmenauer Skatepark: Users shape the future of rolling sports!

Ilmenau, Deutschland - in Ilmenau, a lot is happening for the roll sport community: A new facility for skaters, scooter drivers and BMX cyclists is realized on the popular “sports field of peace”. The city administration has already taken the first steps and organized a workshop that served to collect ideas and suggestions directly from the users. In this context, Lars Strelow, the head of the Ilmenauer sports and company office, summed it up the importance of rolling sports for community culture: "We want to take the needs of young people seriously and create a place together!"

The workshop, which took place on Wednesday evening, enjoyed a surprisingly high number of participants. Representatives of the Ilmenau cycling club (ILRC), the children's and youth advisory board (KJB) and interested citizens were on site. David Gottstein, Managing Director of Rollspiel, presented the first concept ideas. The company specializes in the construction of roll sports parks and will accompany the implementation of the project (in the southern thuringen) .

Needs of users in focus

The planning provides for a skate park made of low -maintenance location concrete. An individual route design is provided that meets the different requirements of the users. Enthusiastic feedback came from the group: Among other things, the participants wished for a new mini lamp that would expand the uses. In a possible second stage of expansion, a racetrack for bikers could follow (Thuringian General) .

The old skater system is subjected to a security check before the planned renewal. At the moment, an average of 40 children and adolescents use the existing facility on weekends, which illustrates the high demand. The park will be renewed in several sections, depending on the decisions of the city council. Mayor Daniel Schultheiß emphasizes how important the early integration of the user in the planning process is to take into account their wishes and ideas directly (Thuringian General) .

The basics for skate park planning include comprehensive advice, location analyzes and the creation of a master plan. Such a plan is necessary to keep an eye on the costs and the financial framework. Detailed execution planning is being worked on, which ultimately also includes approval planning and object monitoring. The skate park should not only be a place to drive and jump, but a center for the local youth, which can live out their passion here. With a good hand and the right plan, Ilmenau could soon become a hotspot for all rolling fans.
