Jena celebrates a thrilling 3:2 victory – drama and emotions in the last minute!
In an exciting game in the Regionalliga Nordost on November 7th, 2025, FC Carl Zeiss Jena brought the spectators to their feet when they achieved a thrilling 3-2 win against BFC Dynamo Berlin. Coach Volkan Uluc's team changed its starting eleven to two positions before the game. Timon Burmeister moved into the starting lineup for the injured Manasse Eshele, while Maxim Hessel returned after a yellow card suspension and Maurice Hehne initially remained on the bench. With only 15 points from 14 games, the FCC wanted to increase the pressure on league leaders Lok Leipzig.
Jena started the game impressively and put the Berliners under pressure with early pressing. The BFC was forced to often look for the long ball. Despite the efforts of both teams, it took some patience to score the first chance to score in the 6th minute. However, Tobias Gunte failed because of the well-positioned Hessel. In the 15th minute, Burmeister also had an opportunity that was saved by keeper Nicolas Ortegel.
First half with ups and downs
In the 21st minute, Moritz Fritz missed from 16 meters before Kevin Lankford missed the goal in the 38th minute. But then came the 39th minute in which Joey Breitfeld made it 1-0 for BFC after Maximilian Prokopenko lost the ball and the referee saw no foul play. Shortly before the half-time whistle, Hessel equalized to 1-1 in the 40th minute with a precise free kick from 17 meters. Both teams went into the locker room with this draw after a hard-fought game.
The second half started powerfully for Jena. BFC had a counterattack opportunity in the 55th minute, but it remained unused. A hand penalty for Moritz Polte was not given, which caused discontent on the Jena bench. But only shortly afterwards the guests turned things up: Lankford made it 2-1 for Jena in the 55th minute, and Kay Seidemann made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute - a comfortable lead for the Thuringians.
Tension until the last minute
Jan Shcherbakovski provided new momentum with his goal to make it 3-2 in the 73rd minute. The final minutes of the game were tense, with Shcherbakovski receiving a traffic light card in the 87th minute for a controversial swoop, despite actually being touched. After seven minutes of stoppage time, Jena was finally able to celebrate an important victory and reduced the gap to Lok Leipzig.
With this dramatic encounter, FCC Jena once again underlined that anything is possible in football. The tactics chosen by coach Uluc and the strong team performance were the key to this valuable success. The fans can look forward to more exciting games in the regional league.
