Wombach cooks the largest potato cloister in the world: 400 kilograms of pure joy!
What an exciting weekend stands in front of the residents of Wombach! On June 21, 2025, the world's largest potato dumplings in the world will be cooked and served in the small but fine village of Wombach, a district of the city of Lohr am Main. This festival is not only a tasty event, but also part of the celebrations for the 700th anniversary of the community, such as Idowa.de
The ambitious attempt to record has set itself the goal of reaching the Guinness Book of Records. The previous record comes from Jena, where a 365 kilogram potato dumpling was cooked in 2010. But the Wombacher is an even more powerful creation: her dumplings should weigh 400 kilograms and thus outdo the predecessor from Thuringia, such as Sonntagsbloss.de added.
Technical masterpiece in the kitchen
The preparation of the huge lump is not without challenges. So the Franconian dumplings must have a longer cooking time. About 20 hours are planned, in which the dumplings in a stainless steel tank with around 3,000 liters of water. To keep the shape, the dumpling mass is filled in a stainless steel corset with a cloth. And when the dumplings are finally finished at 5:00 p.m., it will be taken out of the water with a crane.
With more than 2,000 normal Sunday dumplings, the planned amount corresponds to a colossal feast. The dumpling is served classically with sauce. Part of the proceeds from the dumpling sale will go to the "Sternstunde" benefit campaign of the Bavarian Radio. The use for a good cause makes the event all the more significant.
part of the community
The Wombacher is determined to make their record attempt to make their records a complete success. Last May a smaller dumpling of about 0.5 meters was prepared in a special cooking station to test the processes. The anticipation and the curiosity of the big event can be felt in the community - and the memory of the 365 kilogram cloister from Jena, which was prepared in about eight hours and was then consumed by the curious viewers, as stern.de reported.
This remains to be seen whether the Wombacher can realize their dream and bring the world record to the Franconian homeland. One thing is certain: the entire community is behind this great project, and the celebrations for the 700th anniversary have a particularly tasty highlight!
