Shocking accident in Steinbach-Hallenberg: car crashes into apartment building!
A lot went wrong in Steinbach-Hallenberg on Thursday afternoon. A 37-year-old driver wanted to turn right from the street “Am Zainhammer” onto Hergeser Allee, but overlooked a 55-year-old who had the right of way. The subsequent collision between the two vehicles resulted in total damage of around 40,000 euros. Fortunately, the 55-year-old was uninjured, although a 9-year-old passenger of the person who caused the accident sustained some minor injuries. The Suhl State Police Inspectorate issued the accident reports on June 27, 2025 and reported on the incident, which agitated the minds of local residents.
But that wasn't the only accident that caused excitement that day. An alcohol-abusing driver, a 50-year-old, also made a disastrous name for himself in the region. The man was speeding on Oberhofer Straße, lost control of his vehicle in a right-hand bend and crashed into three boundary stones, only to collide with an apartment building shortly afterwards. He was apparently in such a hurry that he tried to run away - but an attentive witness stopped him.
Difficult situation for everyone involved
An alcohol test showed the driver had a frightening 1.6 per mille, and a preliminary drug test also came back positive. The man was quickly forced to have his blood taken and his driving license revoked. The total damage is estimated at around 125,000 euros, but fortunately the apartment building remains habitable. The cumulative number of incidents in a single day makes it clear how dangerous drinking and driving is.
The statistics on alcohol-related traffic accidents in Germany are alarming. According to Federal Statistical Office data ranging from 1995 to 2023, these accidents continue to be a major problem on our roads. It is not only a question of safety for those affected, but also for other road users. The latest figures have been published for 2024, which strongly indicate that there is a need for action to prevent such incidents.
One thing is certain: the combination of alcohol and speed is a dangerous duo that no one should underestimate. The events in Steinbach-Hallenberg are another wake-up call for our society to act responsibly and take road safety seriously.
