Intestinal health in focus: Suhl self-help day inspires visitors!
On Saturday, October 25, 2025, the 35th self-help day took place in Suhl, which was entirely dedicated to the important topic of intestinal health. The event started at 1:30 p.m. in the festive Kaluga banquet hall and attracted numerous interested parties from the region. Mayor Jan Turczynski opened the day and emphasized the importance of personal encounters and the exchange of experiences in the self-help movement. This has an impressive success story in Suhl, supported by more than 60 self-help groups with over 2,000 active members. The inSüdthüringen reported that the demand for specialist lectures in the field of health is increasing.
A highlight of the event was an impressive, seven-meter-long walk-in intestine model, which invited visitors on an exciting discovery tour to learn more about the human digestive system. In addition to this exciting model, various specialist lectures were on the program, including:
- 14:00 Uhr: „Chronische Erkrankungen des Verdauungstraktes – Symptome, Diagnostik und Therapie“ von Dr. Christof Stang, Facharzt für Innere Medizin und Gastroenterologie;
- 15:00 Uhr: „So wichtig ist der Darm für deine Gesundheit“ von Dr. Sabine Presser, Fachärztin für Spezielle Viszeralchirurgie;
- 16:00 Uhr: „Darmgesund durch den Alltag: Kleine Veränderungen, große Wirkung“ von Maria Voigt, zertifizierte Ernährungsberaterin.
Those interested could find further information about the experts and their topics on the Social Center portal read up. The lectures were broadcast live on the Suhler Selbsthilfe YouTube channel, which significantly increased the reach of the important information.
A colorful afternoon for everyone
Information stands from self-help, sports and creative groups were set up in the foyer of the banquet hall and in the atrium of the CCS, giving visitors the opportunity to find out more about the various self-help offers. Reality and exchange were the order of the day here, while the participants were able to relax with coffee and cake.
Committed personalities such as Julia Schmatloch, head of the social and equal opportunities office, and Thomas Bender, chairman of the self-help advisory board, were on site and supported the event, which was completely free for everyone interested. These initiatives are supported by the GKV Community Funding Thuringia, which promotes accessibility and exchange among citizens. Access to this important area of knowledge has never been so easy! The comprehensive support and the committed exchange between each other show how important self-help is in Suhl.
Overall, the 35th Suhl Self-Help Day was a complete success, not only addressing important topics but also offering space for encounters and personal conversations. The Suhl CCS website also offers further information about upcoming self-help movement events.
