Fatal motorcycle accident in Thuringia: Driver has a serious crashes!

On Tuesday, June 18, a serious motorcycle accident occurred on the country road between Auma and Krölpa in the Saale-Orla district, which ended fatally for a 28-year-old driver. The motorcyclist drifted to the left in a right curve and crashed into a phone mast. The impact was so violent that the driver finally came to lie in the neighboring forest. Despite the rapid reaction of rescue workers who tried to reanimate the injured, any help came too late. A rescue helicopter was also called to the site, but the rescue workers could not do anything. The exact circumstances of the incident are still unclear, but initial indications indicate that possibly excessive speed could have played a role. The police started the investigation and the motorcycle was secured for custody. [1]

The tragic event is not the first of its kind in the region. A few days earlier there had been another fatal motorcycle accident in North Thuringia, as was a popular motorcycle route section. There, a 28-year-old motorcyclist had strayed from the street in a curve on Saturday afternoon and crashed into a tree stump. He also had to succumb to his hospital stay due to the serious injuries. While the police also examine the causes of the accident here, it becomes clear that the connecting road between B4 and B81 via Sophienhof among motorcyclists is very popular due to their curves and landscape. But it is precisely these conditions risks that should not be underestimated. [2]

accident risks for motorcyclists

In Germany, a whopping 4.7 million motorcycles are approved, and the risk of accident for bikers is undeniably higher than for drivers. Fast machines without crumple lines, seat belts or often even without ABS make driving on two wheels particularly dangerous. Statistics show that motorcyclists have a four -time risk of being involved in an accident, while their disposable rate is even seven times as high as that of drivers. Over 500 fatal accidents and almost 10,000 serious injuries per year are not uncommon. The percentage of motorcyclists among the roaddresses increases continuously, although the total number of fatally crashed has declined since 2000. [3]

The fact that almost every fourth traffic accident outside of towns affects a motorcyclist is particularly frightening. Over a third of these accidents are sole accidents in which driving errors or excessive speed are the main causes. The ADAC therefore urgently advises motorcyclists for defensive driving, regular security checks and wearing protective clothing. In addition, new technologies such as cornering ABS and dead angle assistants are urgently recommended to minimize the risk.

The current accidents are an urgent appeal to all two -wheelers: security is going on. Sometimes it is advisable to press the accelerator pedal a little more gentle and to recognize the physical limits of your own vehicle. After all, we all want driving on two wheels not only a hobby, but also safe.
