160 years of Musikverein Riedern: A festival of tradition and future!

Riedern am Wald, Deutschland - The music club "Frohsinn" Riedern am Wald is celebrating a remarkable anniversary this year: 160 years. Like the Südkurier Celebrated. Blasmusik has a long tradition in the region and belongs to socializing in Riedern on the forest.

According to the club's history, the 90th anniversary was celebrated with a district music festival in 1955, in which around 500 musicians took part. The 100th anniversary was even honored with the Pro Musica sticker by the Federal President. These successes and the grading "1st place, with award" for scoring games are evidence of the commitment and the musical quality of the association. Despite the challenges that brought about war times, the Musikverein managed to maintain traditions.

traditions and community

The support from the local government, which provided the association financial aid, played an important role. In 1877, new instruments were procured by Mayor Schneider. Another sign of community support is the tradition of "tin music" on New Year's Eve for the New Year's announcement, which is still popular. At the same time, the Musikverein maintains a close community with other music clubs, especially with the Stadtkapelle Bregenz pre-monastery, which took part in the 100th anniversary.

The upcoming anniversary festival is enriched by guests from the Allgäu, such as the Musikverein Schwarzenbach Allgäu. These friendly contacts contribute to the cultural diversity and exchange within the brass music scene that goes beyond the regional borders.

changes over the years

The change within the club has been particularly remarkable in the past 50 years. If the music club was a men's domain for a long time, the women are outnumbered today. In 2003 Iris Akermann was the first woman in the position of the chairperson and has been supported by Antonia Russ and her team since 2019. This development is also reflected in the youth training of the association, which is a decisive building block for the future.

Currently the Musikverein has 47 active, 52 passive and 13 honorary members. In the anniversary year, a diverse festival program is offered that begins on May 29 with the barrel tapping and various music contributions and ends on June 1st with a festival service and a morning pint concert.

future of the music clubs

Blasmusikblog . The question is also raised how traditional values can be agreed with modern requirements for young musicians: inside. The desire for new members, as well as the consideration, whether existing traditions, such as participation in parades and processions, are still attractive for the younger generation.

In view of the changing needs, it is essential that music clubs rethink their traditions and find opportunities to address young people. It is clear that the quality of music, youth work and social interaction must be constantly improved in order to maintain the cultural identity of brass music and to gain new members at the same time.
