Kaller SC: Cup trauma despite strong fan support!

Euskirchen, Deutschland - The Kaller SC had to take a serious defeat in the cup final against HSG Geislar-Oberkassel on the penultimate Saturday. With an unpleasant result of 12:44 (24: 8), the Kaller handball players came to an end in the district cup. Despite the clear defeat, the KSC was able to count on the support of around 100 fans who actively cheered on the team. Trainer Wolfgang Kirfel emphasized the importance of this support, regardless of the outcome of the game, because he knows how crucial fans are for team spirit.

Before the final, the Kaller SC had completed a special training session to get used to the game with the demanding resin ball. Unfortunately, this was not enough to stand up against the experienced players of HSG Geislar-Oberkassel. Many ball losses of the KSC led to the opponent's speed counterfeits, which was particularly noticeable in the second section of the game.

team performance and seasonal conclusion

The KSC started playing relatively well and was only 6:10 behind after ten minutes. In the course of the first half, however, the HSG continued to settle. After the change of sides, the defeat for the KSC became clearer. Apart from the mistakes in the game, the Kaller did not put some good chances in the goal. Despite everything, coach Kirfel showed understanding for his team and was overall satisfied with their performance. The minimum goal of relegation in the championship was finally reached, even if the final phase of the season was annoying for the coach, as decisive points against direct competitors were lost.

The KSC squad included Dominik Schnichels, Oliver Linzmayer (both goal), as well as Simon Wilms, Christopher Schmitz, Daniel Schade, Jonas Schricksen, Jan Hamacher, Dennis Krause, Stefan Schülter, Pierre Ambus, Jan Hübsch, Lukas Fasen and Leonard Huppertz. The entire team was active under the direction of coach Wolfgang Kirfel.

Cup semi -final and past games

In the upcoming challenge, the KSC will meet the HSG Siebengebirge-Thomasberg. This important match is still on the schedule and arouses further hopes for a positive development.

A look outside the box

In a further context, sports psychologists also deal with the mental preparation of handball players. Henning Thrien and André Haber, former head coach of SC DHfK Leipzig, have developed possible approaches how sports psychology can be used in handball to increase performance. In a workshop for the ASP conference 2023 in Stuttgart, they addressed that too little is talked about working and failure in sport and that professional support is also promising in this sport.

Developments show both on and off the field that handball sports in Euskirchen remains alive and challenging. It remains to be seen how the Kaller SC will assert itself in future encounters and what influence psychological aspects have on the performance of the players.
