Commemoration in Bad Salzungen: Remembering the Kristallnacht pogrom!
On Sunday, November 9th, 2025, a memorial hour will take place in Bad Salzungen to commemorate the Kristallnacht pogrom on November 9th, 1938. The event begins at 4 p.m. in the Bad Salzungen town church. The Evangelical Lutheran Church Community of Bad Salzungen invites you to attend in collaboration with the Partnership for Democracy in the Wartburg District and the Round Table for Democracy in the Wartburg District. The aim of the memorial hour is to jointly commemorate the victims of the pogrom and to send a strong signal against anti-Semitism, hatred and violence, as Rhoenkanal reports.
Kristallnacht was a dark chapter in Germany's history, marked by terrible events: the burning of synagogues, the destruction of Jewish shops and the persecution and murder of countless people. This tragedy should not be forgotten, which is why students from the Dr.-Sulzberger-Gymnasium and the Erste Stadtschule Bad Salzungen are actively involved in the commemoration. The young people will recite diary entries, eyewitness accounts and literary texts to bring what happened to life.
Program and participants
Pastor Karl Weber will give the memorial speech and moderate the event. Students from the Dr. Sulzberger High School will provide the musical accompaniment, supported by the Wartburgkreis District Music School and the singer Pfefferminza von Sternburg. After the memorial service there will be a memorial service in front of the church building.
After the event, all guests are cordially invited to stay for coffee or tea. This offers the opportunity for personal encounters and conversations. Admission to the memorial hour is free, but a collection is requested to support the event.
It is important to remember such events so that they never happen again. The memorial hour on November 9th is an opportunity to come to terms with the past and to send a sign of hope for a common future. According to Rhoenkanal, the call to participate in this important moment of shared remembrance is clearly stated. Let's set an example together!
