New additions from Rot-Weiß Erfurt: Looking for reinforcements!

On July 5th, 2025, Rot-Weiß Erfurt began the intensive preparation phase for the new regional league season after the team started training on June 23rd. Coach Fabian Gerber is optimistic, but he also admits that there is still a need for action in the squad. The most important task is to find the right balance between the new arrivals and the current team.

Among the new faces in the team are the talents Boipelo Mashigo, Raphael Assibey-Mensah, Artur Golubytskyi and Sejdo Durakov, who have already started training while Assibey-Mensah is currently in rehab. The club also has to compensate for the departures of Robin Fabinski, who is moving to VFL Osnabrück, and Jeremiaha Maluze, who is moving to Eintracht Frankfurt's U21s.

Squad adjustments are pending

Strengthening the defensive line is a top priority. Coach Gerber is currently specifically looking for a left full-back and a central defender who can also step in in defensive midfield. Due to the departures, satisfaction with the current squad can still be improved. Holes need to be filled in order to start the new season with a powerful team.

In this context, Gerber supports squad planning in close coordination with the youth board. “The optimal squad size is the team size in the competition plus five players,” according to an expert opinion from the industry. This clear objective should ensure in the long term that the first team is always well positioned, be it through its own talent or targeted new additions.

Team building and shared goals

Another highlight of the training camp planned in Weißensee is to strengthen team cohesion. Through joint exercises and intensive training sessions, it is hoped that the new additions will be quickly integrated into the team and that the players will be well prepared for the challenges ahead.

Rot-Weiß Erfurt is looking forward to the new season with full anticipation. Coach Gerber's goal is to play attractive and offensive football and to challenge equally strong opponents. The club is determined to develop a mix of experience and fresh talent to meet its ambitions and delight fans with thrilling games. The coming weeks will show whether the plans work and how the squad will ultimately present itself.
