Ukrainian drones attack Russia's arms industry - war escalated!
Kiew, Ukraine - On May 29, 2025, the war between Russia and Ukraine continued its dramatic escalation. The Ukrainian armed forces carried out a significant nightly drone attack and aimed at several Russian production facilities for weapons near Moscow, including the Angstrem micro-peak, the Kronstadt plant and the Raduga plant. This reports Al Jazera .
At the same time, Russia's air defense units reported that they were able to intercept three Ukrainian drones that were aimed at Moscow. However, one of the drones struck in a residential building south of the city without causing serious damage or injuries.
Current military developments
in Ukraine, Russian troops have taken control of Kostiantynivka in the Sumy region and the village of Zelene Pole in the Donetsk region. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, however, Ukraine also raised 50,000 soldiers in the northeastern region of Sumy, whereupon President Wolodymyr Selenskyj announced measures to prevent a large -scale offensive in summer.
Additional report Tagesschau and SPIEGEL recorded with a total of 273 Russian flight objects. In advance, the Russian armed forces had already committed an attack on the Sumy region, in which nine civilians were killed. This shows the persistent danger of the situation for the civilian population.
negotiations and diplomatic efforts
Despite the military escalation, the first direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine had been held last Friday for three years without being agreed. However, an exchange of 1,000 prisoners of war was decided, while international pressure on Russia is increasing to make progress in the negotiations.
u.s. President Donald Trump was frustrated by the course of the conflict and warned President Vladimir Putin that he "plays with fire" by defending himself against ceasefire negotiations. Trump also plans a phone call with Putin to coordinate the diplomatic efforts, while the US government threatens with new sanctions if no progress can be achieved.
reactions and future support
In view of the continuing conflicts, NATO plans to ask Germany to provide additional seven brigades, which would include around 40,000 additional soldiers to strengthen the military skills with regard to the threat of Russia. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also announced that the military support for Ukraine increases to around 5 billion euros. In the meantime,Russia has criticized Germany's plans for the development of long -range missiles with Ukraine. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lawrow, these plans indicate an active participation in Germany in the conflict. In a further step, three people were charged in Germany for suspicious activities that may be related to espionage.
The continued military and diplomatic discussion once again puts the fragility of the situation between Russia and Ukraine in the foreground and shows that solutions are difficult to achieve while violence and political tensions are increasing.
