Companies in the Rems-Murr district: Alarming survey reveals problems!

In the Rems-Murr district, companies are increasingly concerned about the location conditions, as a current survey by the IHK district chamber Rems-Murr shows. The most important location factors, such as broadband connection and mobile network, remain poorly rated. The survey took place between June 27 and 15 and 310 of around 1,500 companies wrote to, which corresponds to a participation of around 20%. Claus Paal, President of the IHK district Chamber of Rems-Murr, commented on the challenges with which companies are faced with, including a shortage of skilled workers, rising energy prices and geopolitical uncertainties

The willingness to expand at their own location over the next five years has dropped from 29% in 2022 to only 23%. This could be an indication of growing dissatisfaction with the current economic situation. In addition, the proportion of companies that consider relocation abroad increased from 3% to 5%. An improvement in the digital infrastructure is considered extremely important by the respondents, but progress in this area is perceived as too slow. Satisfaction with the digital connection is clearly shown: 43% of companies express satisfaction with broadband care, while even less are satisfied with the mobile network complements BKZ .

The biggest challenges

Companies in the Rems-Murr district are still facing priority. In addition to the shortage of skilled workers, problems in the supply chains and an inadequate transport infrastructure are also considered significant. The emergency affects numerous industries, whereby the energy sector has now been identified as the third most important location factor, while the labor costs have lost importance. A survey under the participation of 25% industry and other industries has shown that the satisfaction with energy supply is only 13% very high, whereas 43% are rather satisfied BKZ .

In addition, the bureaucracy is perceived by the companies as a major obstacle for a positive development. As an example, a company reports that it was waiting for approval for months. High real estate prices are also a challenge, while the IHK plans to introduce citizen participation formats for larger development projects in order to strengthen the voice of entrepreneurs and citizens adds Statista .

With a high burden of bureaucratic processes and increasing costs, Germany is increasingly seeing itself in a downward trend in international competitive rankings. According to the World Competitiveness Ranking 2023, Germany is only in 22nd place, a decline by seven places compared to the previous year. This could not only endanger companies in the Rems-Murr district, but also endanger the entire German industry in their competitiveness Deutschland/">

Overall, the current situation indicates that both local and national companies face serious challenges without substantial improvements in the areas of infrastructure, reduction in bureaucracy and sustainability.
