Storm risk! Thunderstorms and hail threaten Hesse and Paderborn
Paderborn, Deutschland - Today, the sky over large parts of Germany is much more restless than a few days ago. After a heat wave, violent thunderstorms and heavy rain are announced by the meteorologists of the German Weather Service (DWD). Regions in Hessen are particularly affected, where storm warnings of level 2 of 4 have been in force since the early hours of the morning.
In particular, the districts of Frankfurt, Main-Kinzig-Kreis and Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis have to be prepared for heavy gusts of wind and heavy rain. Rainfalls between 25 and 40 liters per square meter are expected in a very short time, while wind speeds of up to 85 km/h are possible. This marks a clear change in the weather and the end of the current heat phase in Germany.

The meteorologists advise the citizens: inside the affected areas for caution. Information about the ongoing weather warnings should be obtained regularly, unnecessary stays outdoors are to be avoided and special attention is to be drawn to the basement and ground floor apartments. Drivers are asked to adapt their speed to the weather conditions to minimize the risk.
In parallel to the warning of the DWD, the T-Online reports that the heavy rains in Paderborn already flood from police and fire brigade on Saturday led. Around 180 missions were recorded by the fire brigade alone, while the police reported over 100 missions in just two hours. This was primarily a fully run basement, outstanding gully cover and flooded streets. The large amounts of water, which fell between 30 and 40 liters per square meter within just three hours, also ensured power outages in some districts. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

The unstable weather conditions are expected to continue for a few more days. In the west and southwest of Germany in particular, further thunderstorms and heavy rain are to be expected. According to the Storm Center, severe weather warnings are divided into different categories: from yellow for preliminary warnings, orange for moderate, to red for strong storms.
