Vacation on Usedom: Family fights against noise and high prices!
Dissatisfaction with Usedom visitors: A family from Germany expresses criticism of her stay on the popular Baltic island. In a letter to the editor to the Nordkurier describes Susan Lohse her negative experiences during her vacation during herring Easter holidays are connected.
While the accommodation was clean, several problems arose. There was a parking ban in front of the accommodation, which forced the family to avoid a distant, paid parking garage. In addition, the key to accommodation could not be picked up in a safe as expected, as there was no prior information by email. The height limit for vehicles in the underground car park was also not communicated.
Problems with spa cards and construction work
The difficulties for the family took their course when they tried to get the necessary spa cards. These cards are necessary for discounts during the stay and had to be picked up after repeated discussions on site. According to Lohse, information in a flyer about the discounts was inaccurate, and she had an unpleasant surprise during her stay: demolition work on the house, which made the outside staircase unusable. The stay ended prematurely and the family continued to be waiting for a reimbursement.
In addition, Lohse criticized the high restaurant prices and the lack of cheap snack opportunities in the area. Many expensive fashion boutiques shaped the picture, while a nearby pizzeria was the only edible option. Vacationers who stay in the region must pay a tourist tax to finance the tourist infrastructure, which is paid from the arrival day, which applies in particular to visitors from other communities, such as Usedom Insider
tourist tax and tourist developments on Usedom
The tourist tax is available in various seaside resorts of the island and is important for the maintenance of beaches and the financing of rescue swimmers. From 2025 a tourist tax will be introduced in the municipality of Kamminke, but Usedom city has decided not to raise tourists for the time being. Mayor Olaf Hagemann attributes the decision to the high costs in relation to the current number of overnight stays of estimated 40,000 per year. The introduction of the tourist tax here could bring annual income of almost 50,000 euros, but requires additional personnel effort and machines for survey, which is currently considered too complicated, as Watson reported.
In summary, it becomes clear that the challenges when staying on Usedom are diverse: from unexpected construction work to delayed reimbursements to high prices. The future regulation on the tourist tax also shows that the city has to deal with the dynamic developments in the tourism field while trying to remain attractive to its visitors.Details | |
