USA is making veto: Escalation in the Gaza conflict threatens peace!

Gaza, Palästinensische Autonomiegebiete - On June 4, 2025, the United States in the UN Security Council lodged a veto against a resolution that aimed at a de-escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip. This happened despite the existing ceasefire with Hamas, while Israel's military action continues unabated against destinations in the Gaza Strip. A persistent examination of the Hisbollah in Lebanon contributes to the tense situation. The Middle East conflict, which has shaped the region for decades, continues to lead to considerable suffering on both sides.

The humanitarian location in the Gaza Strip has long been worrying. Over two million people live there under very bad conditions, as the UN reports. Hamas had violently taken control of the Gaza Strip in 2007, which led to a sharp tightening of the Israeli blockade, which is also supported by Egypt. These measures have intensified the humanitarian crisis and extended what felted dawn.

political tensions in the UN Security Council

The dispute between the United Nations and Israel about dealing with Hamas increases. Oren Marblestein, spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has sharply criticized UN General Secretary António Guterres. Marmorstein described Guterres' statements as "shame" and questioned the priorities of the UN, especially with regard to humanitarian aid for Gaza. Guterres, who demanded an immediate and independent examination of incidents in which, according to Hamas, civilians were violated by Israeli attacks, expressed horror about the reports of Palestinians who are looking for help.

In this context, Guterres emphasizes that it is unacceptable that Palestinians have to risk their lives for food. However, Israel has rejected any responsibility for civilian victims and initiated an investigation that showed that not civilians were not shot. Marblestein also criticized that Guterres did not adequately mention the Hamas and their role in the conflict situation.

The Gaza Strip: Historical context and current situation

The Gaza Strip, a 45 kilometer long and between 6 and 14 kilometers wide coastal area, is a central scene of the conflict. It is surrounded by a security fence that separates Israel and Egypt. The humanitarian situation had already been classified as precarious before the recent conflicts: almost half of the population was dependent on food aid, a fact that is further tightened by the blockade.

The history of the Gaza Strip is shaped by various gentlemen. After the founding of the state of Israel in 1948, the Gaza Strip was placed under Egyptian administration before it was conquered by Israel in 1967 in the six-day war. The political tensions that led to control through Hamas have led to several armed conflicts between Israel and Hamas, including the wars of 2008, 2012, 2014 and 2021.

The living conditions in the Gaza Strip have deteriorated since Hamas's takeover in 2007. The population suffers from problems such as limited access to clean water, energy and health care. In addition, unemployment is dramatically high, especially among young people, with almost 75 percent of young people without employment. This situation contributes to the continued destabilization of the region and leaves deep humanitarian traces.
