WadePhul: Russia's attacks are an affront to peace!

Schytomyr, Ukraine - Federal Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul has expressed himself to the continuing air strikes in Russia on Ukraine. In his opinion, he described the attacks as an affront against the international community and in particular against the efforts of US President Donald Trump to bring Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table. WadePhul emphasized that the Kremlin wanted to deceive the allies of Ukraine with its actions and no peace, while the continuous attacks were massively undermined. This aggressive attitude requires a determined reaction of the West and the USA, according to WadePhul.

In the nights on Saturday and Sunday, the Russian armed forces bombed the Ukraine massively. These attacks demanded at least twelve fatalities and almost 80 injuries. Large swarms of drones were also used in the night of Monday. The Ukrainian population, which is already suffering from the martial attacks, is called by President Wolodymyr Selenskyj to continue to put pressure on the West to stop terror from Moscow. He warned that the silence of the international actors Putin encouraged to continue aggression.

greatest prisoner exchange since the start of the war

This exchange took place in the context of direct negotiations, which have been initiated for the first time since 2022 and were agreed on May 16 in Istanbul. In the meantime, Russia justified its aggressive air strikes with alleged Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory. Over 300 drones and around 70 rockets are said to have been used, with the attacks demanding numerous civilian victims, including children.

legal consequences and human rights protection

The repeated bombing and the targeted attacks on the civilian population also result in serious human rights violations. These are not only a break in humanitarian international law, but also require international attention and measures. According to reports on human rights violations under the Russian occupation, the urgency of an international compensation mechanism for the damage caused by the war is becoming increasingly obvious.

The International Criminal Court has already started the war crimes and the creation of a special tribunal is being discussed. This could set a strong sign against the ban on violence and maintain international law enforcement, even if it is currently not to be expected that the Russian leadership will be brought to trial.

An urgent appeal also takes place to the states and organizations that are committed to protecting human rights. In this context, those responsible must be held accountable in order to support the population in Ukraine, who suffers from torture and other horrors of war.

The situation in Ukraine remains dramatic, and the international community faces the challenge of providing both humanitarian and legal support in order to relieve people's suffering and protect human rights.
