Wildeshausen celebrates 45 years of partnership with Évron and Hertford!
Kolpingstraße 14, 27793 Wildeshausen, Deutschland - Wildeshausen welcomes the renewal of his city twinning with Évron in France and Hertford in England, an event that will be celebrated from May 30th to June 1, 2025. The partnership with Évron has existed for 45 years, while the connection to Hertford looks back to 30 years. Mayor Jens Kuraschinski emphasizes the importance of strong European relationships, especially in times when such connections are put to the test.
On May 29, guests from England and France are expected in Wildeshausen, where they are welcomed at 7 p.m. in the historic town hall. A total of 18 English and 70 Frenchmen travel to members of the local partnership associations and the wind orchestra.
program of the partnership meeting
The program is diverse and offers numerous activities for the participants. On May 30th there will be an orchestra test with the Wildeshausen wind orchestra and the French orchestra "Harmony Municipal d’évron". There is also a handcart tour, followed by a reception for the formal renewal of the city twinning. A grill buffet and live music on the marketplace from 6:15 p.m. complete the day.
The following day begins with a lunch together and a cinema screening of the film "Partnership meeting in Hertford" at 2:30 p.m. In the evening, the guests are invited to a concert on the marketplace where Chris Sims and "Lune Attic" will appear. The return trip is planned for June 1st.
the partner cities at a glance
The exchange with Évron and Hertford is supported by active committees. The committee for the partnership with Évron was founded on June 27, 1980 and turned into a registered association in 1985, whose president Elke Korinke is. The aim of the committee is to impart partnerships between clubs and the organization of encounters.
Évron, with around 7,500 inhabitants, is located in the Western France Department of Mayenne and has a rich history that goes back to the 5th century. Hertford, on the other hand, has around 24,000 inhabitants and is the administrative seat of the Hertfordshire county. The city is located near London and is known for its rural flair, despite the commuter connections to the capital. Information about Hertford can be found at Hertford.gov.uk and Hertford.net
The importance of city twinning like this is underlined by a study by the Franco-German Institute and the Bertelsmann Foundation. It shows that such partnerships play a key role in promoting European integration and historically arose from the need to reconcile after the Second World War. However, a lesser relevance is perceived by the younger generation, which makes the need for events and this all the more important to strengthen and promote European citizenship.
Special thanks go to the organizers of the meeting, Birte Hobergack (cultural officer), the two partnership associations and Johannes Rohde from the wind orchestra. The contact for the exchange are also Elke Korinke and Marcus Hemjeoltmanns who make an important contribution to maintaining these valuable international relationships.Details | |
