The black-red coalition in Germany plans to accelerate housing through the so-called "housing construction turbo" in order to meet the growing demands on affordable living space. This is particularly important against the background of critical voices and internal conflicts of the parties. So the FAZ that Minister Verena Hubertz (SPD) works optimistically before the summer break say goodbye.

The draft law, which goes back to a prior draft of the traffic light coalition, stipulates that municipalities are released from the usual development plan procedures by 2030 in order to accelerate housing construction. According to the planned regulation, procedures from several years could be shortened to just two months. This applies above all to the construction of apartment buildings with at least six apartments, but not for single -family houses.

Nevertheless, it is unclear how these loosened regulations are actually implemented by the municipalities, especially since the Greens in many major cities may adhere to environmentally promoting principles.

Also Dr. Jan-Marco Luczak (CDU/CSU) supports the construction turbo, but demands cheaper and faster solutions to relieve the housing markets.

The planned measures include the continuation of the rental price brake, an expansion of social housing and a doubling of urban development. The success of the "housing construction turbo" will decisively depend on whether the draft law will be passed as planned before the summer break and to what extent the municipalities are willing to use the new regulations.
